Chapter 7 - the boardroom trap

Silas raised his handgun, pointing it directly at Damon's chest.

"Hand over the USB drive and the European deed, Damon," Silas demanded, his raspy voice filled with bitter malice. "Once you're dead, I will present those documents to the board as Clara's sole surviving guardian, and the two-billion-dollar trust becomes mine."

Damon didn't flinch. He stepped in front of Alina and Mia, shielding them with his broad frame.

"You killed my sister, Silas," Damon growled, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying register. "You burned a innocent man in his workplace. You think a legal paper gives you power?"

"It gives me everything!" Silas laughed crazily. "Execute them!"

Before the mercenaries could raise their rifles, a sudden high-frequency flashbang grenade bounced through the open vault doorway, exploding in a blinding flash of white light and deafening sound.

The mercenaries shrieked, blinded and disoriented.

Damon moved with blinding speed. He closed the distance in two strides, grabbing Silas’s gun hand, twisting his wrist until the weapon clattered onto the stone floor, before delivering a brutal elbow strike to Silas’s chest that sent the old traitor crashing against the brass deposit boxes.

Dante Russo burst through the smoke, firing precise, non-lethal rounds that dropped the four mercenaries onto the floor.

Damon turned, glaring at Dante with icy fury. "Dante?"

Dante dropped his weapon to his side, raising his hands in surrender, his charcoal suit covered in ash.

"I was working with federal prosecutors, Boss," Dante revealed, pulling a digital federal badge from his pocket. "Four years ago, when Leo Rossi died, I realized Silas was running an illegal weapons syndicate. I stayed embedded in his network to gather evidence to bring him down."

Damon stared at his head of security, his dark eyebrows pulling together as the pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place.

"The photograph Mia saw..." Damon realized.

"I was taking the stolen ledgers from Silas's courier to hand over to the FBI," Dante explained. "I couldn't save Leo, Boss... but I swore I would protect his memory."

Silas groaned from the floor, clutching his broken ribs as federal marshals flooded the vault, clamping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

Federal Agent Miller stepped forward, accepting the encrypted USB drive from Damon. "This drive contains enough evidence to seize every asset Silas Moretti owns across three continents."

As Silas was dragged away screaming, Damon looked down at his head of security.

"You're still my head of security, Dante," Damon said quietly. "Now help me take my family home."
