Chapter 10 - The Unspoken Vow

Gasps reverberated through the grand ballroom. The three hundred high-society guests leaned forward in their seats, murmuring in sudden, chaotic confusion.

Genevieve backed away from the altar table, her lace wedding dress rustling loudly against the marble. "Alessandro... what... what is this?!"

Alessandro didn't raise his voice. He stepped toward her slowly, his towering frame casting a dark, intimidating shadow over her sparkling white gown.

"Your father’s forty-million-dollar debt to Chicago was cleared two hours ago, Genevieve," Alessandro revealed softly, his voice carrying clearly across the silent room. "My men seized Falcone’s asset accounts in Zurich at dawn."

Genevieve gasped, her breath catching violently in her throat as her hand flew to her chest.

"And the strike team Falcone sent to my outer gate?" Alessandro added, taking another slow step closer. "They were disarmed and arrested ten minutes ago by the federal marshals."

Genevieve’s radiant, beautiful facade completely shattered. Tears of panic spilled over her fair, rosy cheeks, ruining her formal makeup as she backed against the altar railing. "Alessandro... please! They forced me! Falcone threatened to kill my family if I didn't get you to sign!"

"You didn't do it because you were forced, Genevieve," Alessandro said coldly. "You did it because you were greedy."

Alessandro turned his head toward the side doors of the ballroom.

Marcus walked into the hall, escorting two federal agents dressed in dark suits. Standing right beside Marcus, wearing her pale-pink party dress and clutching her stuffed lamb, was three-year-old Amara, accompanied by her mother Fatima.

Amara looked across the room at Genevieve, her wide brown eyes calm and observant.

Alessandro walked over to the little girl, dropping to one knee beside her in front of the entire assembly of power brokers. He reached out, gently patting Amara’s light-brown hair before looking back at Genevieve.

"You thought a three-year-old child wouldn't understand your lies," Alessandro said, his deep voice filled with absolute authority. "She saw right through you from the very first night."

The two federal agents stepped up to Genevieve, producing a pair of heavy steel handcuffs.

"Genevieve Ashworth," the lead agent announced. "You are under arrest for corporate espionage, attempted assassination, and syndicate conspiracy."

Genevieve wept hysterically as the steel cuffs clicked tightly around her wrists, her flowing lace veil falling to the marble floor as she was escorted out of the ballroom before the eyes of the entire East Coast elite.

The ballroom erupted into loud, stunned murmurs, but Alessandro stood up smoothly, holding three-year-old Amara in his broad left arm.

He walked to the center of the altar, looking out over the assembled crowd of syndicate leaders, politicians, and family members.

"The Rienzi family remains unbroken," Alessandro announced, his voice sharp as steel and loud enough to command the entire house. "And from this day forward, Fatima Okafor and her daughter Amara are under my personal, permanent protection as full members of this estate."

The three hundred guests stood up from their golden seats, bowing their heads in unanimous, deep respect to the undisputed mafia king and the little girl who had saved his empire.

Amara rested her small head against Alessandro’s broad shoulder, her pink bows bright in the golden sunlight streaming through the arched windows, her stuffed lamb held safe in her arm.

Alessandro offered a rare, subtle smile as he looked down at the child, knowing that while the false bride was gone, his true vow to protect his household had just begun.
