Chapter 6 - The Sealed Envelope

By Friday afternoon, twenty-four hours before the grand wedding ceremony, the Rienzi estate was buzzing with intense activity.
Florists lined the marble staircases with white roses, caterers set up silver stations in the grand dining hall, and security personnel stationed themselves along every perimeter gate.
Inside his private library, Alessandro sat across from his estate attorney, Arthur Vance. Arthur was a sharp-faced man in his late fifties who had managed the Rienzi family's legal trust for over twenty years.
On the mahogany table between them sat the official prenuptial agreement prepared by Genevieve’s corporate lawyers.
"This addendum is lethal, Alessandro," Arthur warned softly, pointing to a highlighted clause on page twelve. "If you sign this document in its current form, Genevieve receives immediate joint administrative authority over the Rienzi Maritime Foundation upon completion of the wedding ceremony."
"Which gives Falcone full access to our eastern shipping routes," Alessandro added, his deep voice calm and steady as he stared at the paper.
"Exactly," Arthur agreed. "If you refuse to sign it now, her lawyers will claim a breach of contract before the guests arrive tomorrow."
Alessandro reached into his suit jacket, pulling out a sealed manila envelope stamped with his private wax seal. He set it flat on the desk beside the prenuptial agreement.
"This is the replacement contract, Arthur," Alessandro commanded softly. "It contains a secondary bloodline clause that revokes all spousal transfers in the event of corporate espionage or syndicate collusion. I want this document swapped into the master registry five minutes before the ceremony."
Arthur looked at the sealed envelope, a dark, approving smile touching his lips. "And Genevieve?"
"Genevieve thinks she is signing her triumph tomorrow," Alessandro said coldly. "She won't read the fine print until the handcuffs are on her wrists."
At that moment, the library door opened quietly.
Genevieve stepped into the room wearing an exquisite white lace rehearsal gown. She looked radiant, her blonde hair pinned up gracefully, but her eyes were sharp as she observed the documents on the table.
"Arthur," Genevieve greeted smoothly, walking over to stand beside Alessandro's chair. "Are we finalizing the prenuptial papers?"
"Just reviewing the standard terms, Miss Ashworth," Arthur replied smoothly, sweeping the papers into his briefcase and standing up with a polite bow. "Everything will be ready for the altar tomorrow."
As Arthur exited the library, Genevieve leaned down, placing her slender hands on Alessandro’s broad shoulders. She looked down at him, her blue eyes searching his rugged face.
"You seem so quiet today, Alessandro," Genevieve murmured, her fingers lightly trailing along his collar. "Are you having second thoughts about marrying me?"
May you like
Alessandro reached up, taking her hand and holding it firmly. He looked up into her eyes with an unyielding, terrifying clarity.
"I have never been more certain about tomorrow, Genevieve," Alessandro whispered. "Tomorrow, everyone in this house gets exactly what they deserve."
