Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Horizon

Two weeks later, the Valenti estate had returned to a state of serene, luxurious peace. The dark shadows that had hung over the family for months were replaced by the warm golden light of early autumn.

The damaged floorboards in the grand ballroom had been completely restored, the subterranean lab decommissioned and converted into a secure family archive. Arthur Vance and his conspirators were facing federal indictments that would keep them behind bars for the rest of their lives.

Out on the grand stone terrace overlooking the sprawling estate gardens, a large wooden table was set for an afternoon lunch.

Luca and Nico were running across the manicured lawn, kicking a soccer ball back and forth, their energetic laughter echoing through the clear air. Elena sat at the table, pouring fresh lemonade while talking warmly with Michael, who looked healthy, strong, and completely restored to his former authority.

Sitting on a stone bench near the edge of the terrace was six-year-old Lily. She wore a clean yellow dress, her long brown hair neatly brushed, holding her stuffed rabbit in one hand while swinging her legs peacefully.

Vincent walked out onto the terrace, wearing a fresh tailored charcoal suit with an open white shirt. He walked over to Lily, crouching down beside her bench just as he had done outside the gates two weeks ago.

"How are you feeling today, little boss?" Vincent asked gently.

Lily looked at him with a bright, rosy smile. "I like it here, Uncle Vincent. The bad men are gone."

"Yes, they are," Vincent said, pulling the silver pocket watch from his vest pocket. He held it out to her. "I think this belongs to you now."

Lily took the silver watch, holding it carefully in her small hands. "Does it still tell time?"

"It tells the future now, Lily," Vincent said with a soft smile.

Suddenly, a quiet electronic chime sounded from the watch.

Vincent paused. He looked down at the tiny micro-digital screen on the back casing. A new encrypted satellite transmission had just flashed across the display from an untraceable IP address based in Geneva:

PROJECT HYDRA PHASE TWO ENGAGED. THE EUROPEAN DIRECTORS HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF VANCE'S FAILURE. THEY ARE COMING FOR THE VAULT KEY.

Vincent’s dark eyes narrowed slightly, his posture instantly shifting back to that of an undisputed ruler guarding his kingdom. He did not show panic. He simply closed the watch casing with a firm, decisive click.

Michael walked over, standing beside his brother, looking down at the transmission screen.

"They don't know who they're dealing with, do they?" Michael asked quietly, a dangerous smirk touching his lips.

Vincent stood up to his full height, his broad frame framed by the golden afternoon sun, looking out over the gates of his estate where his security force stood guard.

"Let them come," Vincent said softly, his voice sharp as steel. "We're ready."
