Chapter 10 - The Hospital Review

The hospital conducted an internal safety review.
Again:
Not criminal investigation.
Patient safety.
Visitor violation.
Nursing documentation.
Security.
I participated.
Colette participated.
Bernice was invited to provide statement.
She did through counsel? No need lawyer maybe through patient relations. She sent written statement.
She argued:
No one clearly told her she could not help Elodie stand after first incident.
The chart contradicted.
Second incident:
She claimed physical therapist had said:
“gentle movement is good.”
PT note showed therapist discussed future progressive mobilization with staff supervision.
Bernice heard what suited her.
Third:
She admitted pulling Elodie from bed but said:
“I supported her weight.”
Video from room? Hospitals usually no cameras in patient room. No.
My eyewitness.
Elodie.
Colette arriving after.
No need more.
The hospital issued:
Permanent visitor restriction during that admission unless approved by me and hospital leadership.
I said no visits.
Bernice threatened to complain.
Her right.
The restriction stood.
No blacklist from all hospitals forever.
Specific admission.
Specific safety concern.
Grounded.
Colette later apologized to me.
“For what?”
“I should have escalated after the second time.”
I stared.
“You documented.”
“I thought your mother misunderstood.”
“She’s very convincing.”
“That’s not an excuse.”
“Maybe not.”
Then I said something important:
“I authorized her access.”
Colette looked at me.
Neither of us needed to claim sole failure.
Systems work when people escalate patterns early.
May you like
We both learned.
