Chapter 19 - Eugenia’s Criminal Case

The garbage incident did not become a spectacular felony prosecution.
No serious bodily injury.
No toxic substance intentionally used.
But intentionally dumping spoiled refuse over a child as humiliation mattered.
Police investigated.
Witnesses.
Catering records.
Video from party phones.
Eugenia admitted planning the box.
Her attorney characterized it as:
“an appalling prank.”
The prosecutor viewed it as child-directed offensive physical contact and harassment.
The case resolved through plea.
Misdemeanor assault/child-endangerment-related offense under the applicable charging framework.
Twelve months probation.
Mandatory counseling.
Community service.
No unsupervised contact with Niles during probation.
No direct contact with me during overlapping no-contact period.
No jail.
Some relatives were furious.
Others thought any conviction was too much.
Neither side controlled.
My own diversion completed.
No conviction after successful completion.
Again:
Not equivalence.
Eugenia planned a child’s humiliation.
I struck an adult in immediate rage.
Different facts.
Both required accountability.
