Chapter 4 - The Interrogation at Dawn

Marcus Vale didn't need a command. Before the night nurse could slide out of the leather chair, Marcus moved with terrifying speed, blocking her path to the door and pressing a heavy hand against her shoulder, locking her in place.
"Marcus," Lorenzo said, his voice dropping to a register so cold it chilled the air in the nursery. "Take her down to the lower holding rooms. Make sure she understands that if she speaks a single lie, she won't see the sunrise."
"Understood, Boss," Marcus replied coldly, escorting the trembling nurse out of the room without a sound.
Lorenzo turned back to Elena, who was still holding Leo close. The baby had finally finished feeding and was now fast asleep against her chest, his tiny rosy cheeks resting peacefully against her apron.
Lorenzo walked over and stood beside her. "What is your name?"
"Elena, sir. Elena Hayes," she answered softly.
"How did you know how to calm him, Elena?"
Elena looked down at the sleeping child, a bittersweet shadow passing over her face. "I lost my daughter two months ago, Mr. Rossi. She was born early, too. You learn the rhythm of a fragile child when you spend every second praying for them to breathe."
Lorenzo stared at her, feeling a sudden, deep respect for the young woman standing in front of him. "From this moment on, you are no longer housekeeping staff. You are my son's personal caregiver. You will move into the suite adjoining the nursery tonight."

"Mr. Rossi, I'm just a maid—"
"You saved my son's life tonight while my paid staff was poisoning him," Lorenzo interrupted firmly, his eyes burning with absolute authority. "You stay with Leo."
