Chapter 22 - Lenora’s Apology Is Harder

Lenora waited another year.

Not because I blocked all communication.

Because her therapist and Peter advised that Sloane needed a relationship with her mother separate from:

the Sterling dispute.

Lenora eventually requested a written apology to Annelise.

Rachel and I reviewed.

It said:

Annelise,

I told Sloane things about adult money disagreements that I should not have put on a child.

There.

I made it sound as though your father was giving you things that should have belonged to her.

There.

That was not true.

There.

At your party, when Sloane threw your gifts and pushed you, I should have helped you and corrected her.

There.

Instead I blamed you because I was angry at your father.

There.

Then:

I also came to your birthday intending to pressure your father to sign an adult agreement.

There.

Your birthday should not have been used that way.

Good.

No explanation about Caleb.

No demand for empathy.

“I am sorry.”

Annelise listened.

Then asked:

“Why Lenora says Dad secret?”

I answered.

“She thought I was embarrassed about money problems involving Uncle Caleb.”

“Were you?”

“Yes.”

“Still?”

“Less.”

“Because fixed?”

“Because truth is known.”

She thought.

“Can Lenora come birthday?”

“No plans for that.”

“Okay.”

She did not ask to forgive.

I did not ask.

May you like

Learning.
