Chapter 14 - Violetta’s Assault Case

The case involving Primrose was simpler.
Adult.
Child.
One slap.
Bruising.
Witnesses.
Video.
No prior criminal history.
Violetta eventually accepted a misdemeanor assault-related plea and child-endangerment disposition.
Probation.
Mandatory anger-management treatment.
Individual therapy.
Community service.
No unsupervised contact with Primrose during probation.
Restitution for medical costs.
No jail.
She apologized in court.
Not perfectly.
“I reacted to an object that had enormous emotional and financial significance.”
The judge stopped her.
“You reacted to a child.”
That sentence changed her face.
She tried again.
“I hit my niece because she accidentally broke something.”
Better.
Then:
“She did not deserve it.”
Yes.
Primrose was not present.
