Chapter 25 - Violetta Builds Something Without Borrowing

Violetta did not return to foundation leadership.
Instead she started a small event-strategy firm.
That sounds ironic.
It was.
Her first major nonprofit client asked:
“Can you increase gala revenue?”
Violetta answered:
“Yes, but first we need a cash budget that does not depend on unpaid pledges.”
She later told me that conversation.
I laughed.
“Mother possessing you?”
“Shut up.”
Her company used independent accounting.
Conflict disclosures.
No personal investments in vendors it recommended.
Overcorrection perhaps.
Useful overcorrection.
She became good at advising nonprofits on event economics because she understood exactly how prestige can distort judgment.
She never publicly marketed:
I once misused restricted funds.
No redemption branding.
But she did tell boards:
“Cash restrictions are real even when the money is sitting in the same bank.”

People listened.
Experience had become expertise without becoming self-celebration.
