Chapter 13 - Mara’s Custody Motion

Mara filed to modify our parenting agreement.

I expected anger.

She brought documents.

Specific.

No overnight delegation to Beatrice or Renata.

Mutual notice before third-party overnight care.

Claire restored as agreed caregiver during my business travel.

Dahlia’s therapist added to medical decision loop for trauma-related concerns.

No family-residence stays without a parent or named caregiver for six months.

I signed most voluntarily.

One issue:

Mara wanted right of first refusal whenever I traveled overnight.

Meaning she would have first option to take Dahlia before I used a caregiver.

I resisted.

Not because unreasonable.

Because it affected work and scheduling.

We negotiated.

For travel over one night, yes.

Single late evenings, no.

For international travel, specific notice.

For major family events, adult caregiver named in advance.

The court approved modification.

No custody transfer.

No dramatic judge telling me I failed as father.

But the order reflected something real.

I had been too casual about handing my daughter into a family system where my surname caused employees to stop questioning adults.

Mara said afterward:

“I don’t want less father for Dahlia.”

“I know.”

“I want less dynasty.”

That hurt.
