Chapter 26 - The ladle

I threw the original ladle away after evidence was released.
Then regretted giving it emotional importance.
Months later, I was cooking soup.
I needed a ladle.
I opened the drawer.
Nothing.
Caleb asked:
“Why don’t we have the big spoon?”
I froze.
Then laughed unexpectedly.
Because that was what it was to him.
A big spoon.
The next day I bought another one.
Stainless steel.
Almost identical.
Rachel stared when she saw it.
“You’re serious?”
“It’s kitchen equipment.”
She smiled.
“Good.”
That night I served soup with it.
