Chapter 7 - The guarantee

The document on our kitchen counter was a personal pledge agreement.

Not a simple marital consent.

Ryan wanted me to pledge up to:

$3.4 million

of my separate investment assets as collateral supporting a refinancing package for Mercer Ridge.

If the company recovered?

Fine.

If it failed?

The lender could potentially reach the pledged assets according to the agreement.

I had refused twice.

Not because I wanted Ryan’s company to fail.

Because independent financial advice told me:

Do not expose nearly all liquid separate assets to one distressed business.

Especially while pregnant.

Especially with two young children.

Especially when Ryan would not provide full financial records.

Rachel’s colleague reviewed the proposal.

His opinion:

May you like

“No.”

Ryan hated that.
