Chapter 15 - The Morning Vivienne Lost Control

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The hearing began at nine.

Vivienne entered through one door.

Dominic through another.

Maisie was not there.

Dominic refused to turn her life into courtroom theater.

Grace stayed with her at the estate.

The judge reviewed everything.

DNA.

Hospital records.

The altered birth certificate.

The payment to Richard Vale.

Elena’s recording.

Grace’s messages.

Matteo’s letters.

The intercepted mail.

Vivienne’s attorneys argued there was insufficient proof she personally ordered the record alteration.

Then the hospital produced one final archive.

An old visitor log.

Vivienne’s signature.

Legal department.

Same day the amendment was uploaded.

Jonathan didn’t smile.

Neither did Dominic.

The judge suspended Vivienne from all Legacy Trust authority pending full proceedings.

Every vote she controlled under that role was frozen.

Every transaction required independent review.

Then came the second blow.

The trust appointed a temporary special fiduciary.

No Castellano.

No Vivienne.

An outside retired judge.

Dominic actually approved.

Vivienne stared at him.

“You’re letting a stranger control your family?”

Dominic shook his head.

“I’m letting someone you can’t manipulate protect my daughter’s rights.”

That silenced her.

Outside court, detectives waited.

Vivienne’s attorney stopped.

“What is this?”

One detective stepped forward.

They had obtained warrants involving suspected forgery, financial interference, witness intimidation, and conspiracy related to the hospital records.

Vivienne looked at Dominic.

For the first time, she seemed truly afraid.

“Are you going to let them do this?”

The question stunned him.

“Let them?”

“We’re family.”

Dominic stared.

“So was Maisie.”

Vivienne said nothing.

“So was Elena.”

Her eyes filled.

“So was Matteo.”

That hurt.

Dominic did not enjoy it.

But he didn’t rescue her either.

The detectives escorted Vivienne away for processing and questioning.

She was not convicted that morning.

Dominic understood that.

Evidence still had to be tested.

Charges still had to be proved.

But for the first time, Vivienne could not decide which doors opened and which stayed closed.

Back at the estate, Maisie sat at the kitchen island eating cereal.

Dominic entered.

She looked up.

“Did you win?”

He stopped.

The question sounded simple.

The answer wasn’t.

“No.”

Maisie frowned.

“Did she?”

“No.”

“Then what happened?”

Dominic sat beside her.

“We made sure nobody gets to hide the truth while adults figure out what happens next.”

Maisie considered that.

“That sounds boring.”

Dominic smiled.

“Justice usually has paperwork.”

She laughed.

Then became quiet.

“Are you my dad now?”

The question hit harder than anything in court.

Dominic answered carefully.

“I’m your biological father.”

“That’s not what I asked.”

Grace looked away.

Dominic remembered Elena’s letter.

Love her slowly.

Let her decide whether you deserve to be called Dad.

So he said—

“I’d like to become your dad.”

Maisie studied him.

“You have to earn it?”

“Yes.”

She nodded.

“Okay.”

Then she pushed the cereal box toward him.

“You can start with breakfast.”

👉 Vivienne was finally losing power, but Dominic’s hardest test had nothing to do with money or court—it was earning the trust of the daughter he had already lost eight years with.
