Chapter 6 - the father's final letter

By 2:00 AM, the mansion was quiet once more.
Jonathan sat behind his desk in the grand study, holding a yellowed paper folder he had pulled from the HR filing cabinet—Rosa's original employment application from four years ago.
Tucked into the inner lining of the folder was a small silver key stamped with the number 714, alongside an unsealed envelope addressed to Jonathan in his father's distinct, elegant handwriting.
Jonathan opened the letter with steady fingers.
My dear Jonathan,
If you are reading this, it means Harrison Blake has finally succumbed to his greed, and you have discovered the Sterling transfers. Four years ago, I learned that Victor Sterling was attempting to blackmail our estate using forged accounting records.
To protect this family, I hired Rosa Martinez—the widow of my late friend and former chief engineer, David Martinez. David died protecting our offshore installations, and I swore to ensure his family was cared for forever.
The contents of Box 714 contain the full legal evidence required to dismantle Sterling Holdings and clear our family's name once and for all. Take care of Rosa and her daughter, Jonathan. They are part of our legacy.
Your loving Father.
Jonathan closed the letter, his chest rising as a deep, profound clarity settled over him. Rosa wasn't just a housekeeper hired from an agency—she was the widow of a man who had given his life for the Whitmore empire, brought into the house by his father to keep her safe from Sterling's reach.
Jonathan looked up to see Rosa standing in the doorway, holding a tray with two fresh cups of coffee.
"Mr. Whitmore?" Rosa asked softly. "Is everything alright?"

Jonathan stood up from his desk, walking over to her. He reached out and took the tray, setting it down on a side table, before looking into her eyes with deep, unshakeable respect.
"My father left a letter, Rosa," Jonathan said gently. "Your husband... David... was a hero to this family. And starting tonight, no one in this house will ever treat you like hired help again."
