Chapter 7 - the vault on fifth avenue

At 7:00 AM, the morning sun broke over Manhattan, casting long golden light across Fifth Avenue.

A black armored SUV pulled up to the stone steps of First National Bank. Jonathan stepped out first, wearing his tailored black suit, his intense gaze sweeping the street. He turned and helped Rosa and Camila down to the sidewalk, flanked by four armed security enforcers.

They walked through the grand brass doors into the marble safety deposit vault beneath the main lobby.

The bank manager unlocked the outer steel gate, guiding them to Box 714. Jonathan inserted the small silver key, turning it simultaneously with the manager's master key.

CLACK.

The long metal box slid out smoothly from the wall.

Jonathan carried the box to a private viewing room, setting it down on the mahogany table. Inside rested three black leather-bound ledgers, an encrypted audio cassette, and the original, unredacted corporate deeds for Whitmore Enterprises.

Jonathan played the audio tape on a small portable deck.

A coarse, gravelly voice echoed through the speaker—Victor Sterling, clearly laying out a plan to frame Jonathan's father for corporate fraud while siphoning funds into offshore accounts.

"It's all here," Jonathan murmured, his dark eyes burning with victory. "Full legal exoneration. Sterling's entire empire ends today."

Suddenly, the heavy glass door of the viewing room swung open.

Standing in the doorway was Victor Sterling himself—a fifty-five-year-old ruthless corporate raider dressed in a dark pinstriped suit, flanked by three broad-shouldered private guards.

Sterling smiled wickedly, holding a silver walking cane. "You always were as predictable as your father, Jonathan. Hand over the box."
