Chapter 9 - the final confrontation

The black SUV tore up the winding driveway of the Whitmore estate ten minutes later, spraying gravel as Jonathan brought the vehicle to a halt in front of the grand foyer steps.
Jonathan stepped out into the rain, his dark suit coat snapping in the wind, moving with fast, powerful strides into the house.
He burst into his private study.
The room was in chaos. Books were tossed from the shelves, and the oil painting had been ripped from the wall, revealing the hidden wall safe behind it.
Standing before the open safe, holding a velvet bag filled with five million dollars in bearer bonds, was Harrison. His charcoal suit was soaked with rain, his hair wild, his eyes manic with desperation.
"Don't move, Harrison," Jonathan said, his voice dropping into a hollow, lethal register as he closed the study door behind him.
Harrison spun around, pulling a small chrome revolver from his coat pocket and pointing it directly at Jonathan's chest!
"Stay back, Jonathan!" Harrison screamed, his hands shaking violently. "I built half of this estate! I served your father for twenty years! I deserve this money!"
Jonathan didn't slow down. He didn't draw a weapon. He kept walking straight toward the barrel of the gun, his dark eyes completely devoid of fear.
"You betrayed my father," Jonathan said, each word heavy as lead. "You stole from an innocent widow. You threatened a nine-year-old child."
"I'll shoot you, Jonathan! I swear to God I'll shoot!" Harrison shrieked.
Jonathan reached him in a single stride, grabbed the barrel of the chrome revolver with his bare hand, twisted it backward with crushing strength, and disarmed Harrison in less than a second!
The weapon clattered uselessly across the floorboards.
Jonathan grabbed Harrison by his coat lapels, lifting the late-forty-year-old manager off his feet and slamming him violently against the heavy oak desk!

"You're done, Harrison," Jonathan growled in his ear.
Police cruisers screeched to a halt outside the grand windows, their red and blue lights flashing against the glass as officers burst through the foyer, taking Harrison into custody and dragging him out into the rain forever.
