Chapter 10 - the open horizon

Six months later, the afternoon sun cast a breathtaking golden light across the grand terrace of the Moretti estate.
A grand outdoor wedding celebration was underway. Classical music drifted through the open doors of the conservatory as Chicago's top business leaders, family allies, and estate staff gathered to celebrate Dominic and Clara's wedding.
Clara stood near the stone balustrade wearing a breathtaking white lace bridal gown, her long brown hair styled in soft, elegant waves, holding one-year-old Leo in her arms.
Standing beside her in a custom black tuxedo was Don Dominic Moretti, looking impossibly handsome, his broad arm wrapped securely around her waist.
Dante Russo walked out onto the stone terrace, carrying a thick black leather envelope stamped with a heavy red wax seal—a crest depicting a golden anchor holding a broken chain.
Dante handed the envelope to Dominic, his expression calm but focused. "Boss. A private courier just brought this from the airport in London. It came directly from the High Council in Europe."
Dominic broke the heavy wax seal and pulled out a single sheet of heavy parchment written in fine, sweeping gold calligraphy.
He read the first two lines, a quiet, subtle smile touching his sharp features as he looked at Clara.
Written on the parchment were only two sentences:
"To Don Dominic Moretti: The debt of Chicago is settled, and Leo is secure. But your late father's secondary trust in London has just been unlocked by a second child's bloodline record."
Clara looked at Dominic, her soft brown eyes sparkling with curiosity and happiness. "Dominic? What does it say?"

Dominic slowly folded the black parchment, slipped it into his tuxedo pocket, and wrapped his broad arm around Clara's waist, pulling her and Baby Leo close against his side as they looked out toward the endless, sparkling blue horizon of Lake Michigan.
"It seems our story has one more beautiful chapter to write, my love," Dominic whispered softly into the warm summer breeze, holding his wife and son close as the afternoon sun bathed them in eternal golden light.
