Chapter 10 - a new dynasty

One year later.

The private courtyard of the Moretti coastal estate was bathed in bright, cinematic sunlight. The gardens were in full bloom, filled with white roses and lavender, their fragrance mingling with the crisp breeze rolling off the blue waters of Lake Michigan.

Laughter echoed across the manicured lawn.

Seven-year-old Leo, looking healthy, vibrant, and handsome in a navy blazer, was kicking a soccer ball across the grass with Marco Russo, who had completely abandoned his stern bodyguard demeanor to play goalkeeper against the laughing boy.

On the sunlit stone terrace overlooking the lawn sat Dominic and Grace.

Dominic looked magnificent. He wore a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing the dark, intricate ink winding down his forearms, paired with tailored trousers. The scars from his surgery had faded into thin silver lines, and the tension that had once permanently lined his brow had softened into quiet contentment.

Beside him sat Grace.

She wore an elegant sundress of pale blush, her long dark hair falling in soft waves over her shoulders, her fair skin radiant with a healthy, rosy glow. On her left ring finger sparkled an exquisite emerald-cut diamond, resting beside a simple platinum band.

Dominic leaned back in his wicker armchair, his arm draped casually around Grace’s shoulders, his fingers lightly playing with the ends of her hair.

"The foundation opened the third pediatric wing in Detroit this morning," Grace said, looking up from her tablet with a proud smile. "All fully funded, free of charge for families in need."

Dominic looked down at his wife, his dark eyes brimming with unconditional love and respect. "You're turning the Moretti name into a symbol of salvation instead of fear, Mrs. Moretti."

"Someone has to keep your balance sheet moral," Grace teased, turning in her chair to press a sweet, lingering kiss to his chiseled jaw.

Dominic caught her chin with his hand, turning her face toward his, kissing her lips with the same fiery, protective passion that had consumed him since the night she had saved him in room four-twelve.

"Uncle Dom! Grace! Look!" Leo yelled from the lawn, waving his arms enthusiastically after scoring a goal past Marco.

Grace laughed, leaning into Dominic’s broad chest as they watched their nephew celebrate.

Dominic reached into his pocket and pulled out the restored silver chain. The broken link had been repaired with solid white gold, holding the antique black cross securely in place.

He called Leo over.

The boy bounded up the stone stairs, his cheeks flushed and smiling. "Did you see that shot, Uncle Dom?"

"I saw it, champion," Dominic smiled, pulling the boy between his knees.

Dominic lifted the silver chain, slipping it gently over Leo’s head. The black cross settled against the boy’s chest, resting where it belonged.

"Your father was a brave man, Leo," Dominic said softly, his voice full of warmth and pride. "He wore this cross to remind him that family is the only thing worth living and dying for. It belongs to you now."

Leo looked down at the cross, touching the smooth stone with reverence, before looking up at Dominic and Grace with bright, gray-blue eyes full of hope.

"I'll make you proud, Uncle Dom," Leo said solemnly.

"You already do, son," Dominic replied, pulling the boy into a warm embrace.

Grace watched the two of them, her hand resting gently against her own stomach, where a new life had just begun to take shape—a secret she would share with Dominic beneath the stars tonight.

The shadows that had once haunted the Moretti family had vanished into the light. The empire was no longer ruled by greed and betrayal, but by honor, loyalty, and an unbreakable love that had started with a single breath between heartbeats.
