Chapter 14 - Marcelline’s Daughter

Marcelline had no children.

That was part of her pain.

She had wanted them.

Two miscarriages in her thirties.

One failed IVF cycle.

Then divorce.

I had known some.

Not all.

Cecilia knew everything.

After Elsa was born, Marcelline became obsessed with being the glamorous aunt.

Gifts.

Trips.

Dresses.

At first Elsa adored her.

Then Cecilia died.

Marcelline felt, in her words:

“like the only Frost woman left who could teach Elsa who her mother was.”

That role gave meaning.

Then I limited visits when Elsa became overwhelmed.

Marcelline experienced it as losing Cecilia again.

This did not excuse pushing a child.

It explained why she interpreted Elsa’s preference for me as betrayal.

During psychological evaluation she said:

“When Elsa asked to go home, I heard Cecilia choosing Vittorio from the grave.”

That sentence was heartbreaking.

And dangerous.

Elsa was not Cecilia.

A child cannot repair an adult’s sibling grief.

Marcelline had tried to make her.

When Elsa resisted, Marcelline increased control.

That was the emotional mechanism.

Not greed alone.

Not inheritance alone.

Grief transformed into entitlement.

The trust dispute merely gave it structure.
