Chapter 8 - The confession under cold light

The courtyard of the estate erupted into chaos as heavy gunfire echoed off the stone walls. Bright muzzle flashes lit up the morning sky as Domenico’s men engaged the Moretti mercenaries. Domenico moved through the grand hallways with frightening precision, his broad shoulders squared, his black suit blending into the alcoves as he eliminated two intruders trying to force their way through the side doors.
In the central foyer, the leader of the Moretti strike team—a ruthless enforcer named Victor—stood near the shattered remains of the porcelain vase from the day before.
"Romano!" Victor shouted, his heavy voice echoing in the space. "Hand over the child and the trust documents! Your brother-in-law already sold us the rights!"
Domenico stepped out from behind a marble pillar, his weapon aimed squarely at Victor's chest. "Marco didn't have the rights to sell. And you crossed the state line into my city."
Victor smirked, reaching for his weapon, but Domenico fired two precise shots before Victor could even raise his arm. The enforcer collapsed onto the marble, his men retreating in panic as Domenico’s elite squad flanked them from the upper balconies.
Within fifteen minutes, the firefight was over. The remaining mercenaries were disarmed and forced out onto the driveway under heavy guard.
Domenico walked back into the study, where Vance was standing guard over Marco and Camilla. The heavy silence returned to the room, broken only by the hum of the air conditioning.
Domenico sat on the edge of the desk, looking down at his brother-in-law. "Your friends from Chicago are gone, Marco. You have five seconds to tell me everything else you hid about Elena's medical records before I hand you over to Vance."
Marco collapsed against the wall, his spirit completely broken. "There... there was a second document," Marco stammered, sweating profusely. "In the safe at the clinic. Elena left a recorded statement before she passed. She knew Camilla was trying to take the baby."
Domenico’s heart hammered against his ribs. "A recorded statement?"
May you like
"Yes!" Marco cried. "She made the nurse record a video confession on an encrypted drive! She hid it in the hospital's private vault! She knew you would come looking for her eventually!"
Domenico turned to Vance instantly. "Get the car ready. We're going to St. Jude's."
