Chapter 10 - The Threshold of Sixteen

Six months later, the spring sun warmed the grand terrace of the Vale estate. Blooming cherry blossom trees framed the lush green lawn overlooking the sparkling waters of the ocean.
Sitting in a comfortable white armchair on the sunlit terrace was Clara Vale. Though still recovering from her long years of illness, her skin was rosy and full of life, her dark eyes shining with happiness as she watched the lawn.
Sitting beside her was Megan, dressed in a stunning floral summer dress, sipping tea and sharing soft laughter with Clara.
Down on the grass, four-year-old Sadie was running happily with a small golden retriever puppy, her dark green polka-dot dress bouncing as she laughed under the warm sky.
Walking out onto the terrace was Roman Vale. He wore a crisp white linen shirt and dark trousers, carrying two fresh glasses of lemonade. He set the glasses down on the outdoor table and sat beside Megan, gently wrapping his broad arm around her shoulders.
Megan leaned her head against his broad chest, feeling a deep, unshakeable sense of peace and home.
"She looks so happy, Roman," Megan whispered, watching Sadie play on the lawn.
"She gave us our family back, Megan," Roman said softly, kissing her temple. "She saved all of us."
Sadie ran up the terrace steps, holding a fresh piece of paper covered in bright, colorful crayon drawings.
"Look, Uncle Roman! Look, Mommy!" Sadie cheered, holding out her drawing.
The drawing showed a grand house under a bright yellow sun. Standing together on the grass were four figures holding hands: a little girl in a green dress, a woman in a floral dress, a woman with a silver rose necklace, and a tall man in an ivory suit wearing a big smile.
Roman picked up the drawing, looking at it with deep pride and affection. "This is going right onto the wall of my private study, Sadie."
Sadie giggled, jumping into Roman's lap and wrapping her small arms around his neck in a tight, warm hug.
As the sun began to set over Long Island, casting a golden glow across the estate, Marco walked quietly out onto the terrace, holding an unsealed black leather portfolio bearing an official international seal.
"Sorry to disturb the evening, Boss," Marco said softly, his tone serious. "This was just delivered by a diplomatic courier from London."
Roman accepted the portfolio, opening the leather flap, and pulled out a single sheet of aged parchment paper.
Written across the document in dark, elegant silver calligraphy was a short, cryptic message:
Roman Vale,
You have rescued your sister and secured your family in New York.
But the offshore trust in Zurich was only one account belonging to the Sovereign Council in Europe.
Look inside the secondary vault at the London branch. The true legacy of the Vale bloodline has only just begun to unfold.
The Sovereign Council.
Roman stared down at the silver ink as an electric, dangerous resolve settled over his powerful frame. He did not feel fear; he felt only an unyielding, protective strength.
He folded the parchment slowly, slipping it into his jacket pocket, and looked down at Megan and little Sadie, who were smiling up at him under the sunset.

Roman looked at Marco, a slow, fierce smile touching his lips.
"Prep the jet for London, Marco," Roman commanded in a low, lethal baritone. "Our family's story is far from over."
