Chapter 8 - the quiet vow

By four in the afternoon, the council room had been cleared. Marcus Moretti and his conspirators were escorted away under heavy guard, their territorial assets immediately seized and redistributed among loyal regional commanders.

The mansion was quiet once again, the heavy atmosphere of betrayal replaced by a profound sense of safety and order.

Inside the sunlit master suite, Clare stood near the balcony doors, looking out at the glittering ocean horizon. Lily was happily sitting on a plush rug nearby, playing with a set of custom wooden building blocks Ethan had gifted her from his own collection.

Dominic walked into the room, having removed his suit jacket. He walked with quiet, powerful steps across the floor, stopping right behind Clare.

"It is done," Dominic said softly, his deep voice carrying a rare sense of peace. "Marcus and his network have been completely dismantled. My family... and this house... are safe."

Clare turned around to face him, her soft brown eyes shining with emotion. She looked up at his rugged, handsome face, taking in his strong jawline and the intense, protective warmth in his dark eyes.

"I still can't believe it, Dominic," Clare whispered softly, using his first name for the very first time. "A few days ago, I was just your housekeeper... worried about making sure the linens were folded correctly."

Dominic reached out, his warm, large hand resting gently over her cheek, his thumb softly tracing her fair skin.

"You were never just a housekeeper to me, Clare," Dominic revealed low, his dark eyes locking onto hers with deep, undeniable intensity. "I have watched you work in this house for three years. I saw your dedication, your gentle heart, and the incredible way you raised Lily alone. I kept my distance out of respect... but tonight proved that you belong by my side."

Clare’s breath caught in her throat, her rosy cheeks flushing warm as a wave of deep, joyful emotion swept through her chest. She reached up, resting her hand over his tattooed wrist.

"Dominic..." she murmured softly.

Dominic leaned down, pressing a soft, lingering kiss against her forehead, his breath warm against her skin. "This mansion is your home now, Clare. Yours and Lily's. No one will ever threaten either of you again as long as I draw breath."
