Chapter 7 - The Unbroken Legacy

Three weeks later, the morning sun flooded the grand dining room of the Caruso estate.
The heavy mahogany table was set with fresh flowers, silver plates, and warm morning pastries. The cold, dark atmosphere that had hung over the house for decades was completely gone, replaced by warmth, light, and the sweet sound of a four-year-old child's laughter.
Rachel sat at the head of the table beside Vincent, wearing a beautiful floral silk dress, her dark hair falling softly over her shoulders. She looked healthy, radiant, and full of peace.
Emma sat in a high chair between them, wearing a brand-new pink lace dress with a fresh pink ribbon in her hair, happily eating pancakes while Mr. Buttons sat on the table beside her plate.
Marco walked into the dining room carrying a thick leather binder. He set the documents down in front of Rachel and Vincent with a genuine, disciplined smile.
"The federal court has officially finalized the inheritance transfer, Miss Dawson," Marco reported. "Thirty percent of the Caruso Corporation's global real estate holdings, along with full ownership of the east wing properties, has been legally registered in your name."
Rachel looked down at the official documents bearing her name—Rachel Dawson Caruso—tears of joy shining in her dark eyes.
"I still can't believe this is real, Marco," Rachel whispered softly. "A month ago, I was afraid I couldn't buy Emma new shoes."
Vincent reached out, taking her hand into his large, warm grip. "You will never worry about anything again, Rachel. You are a Caruso. This home belongs to you."
Little Emma reached over, grabbing Vincent’s large thumb with her small hand. "Can Mr. Buttons have a pancake, Uncle Vincent?"
Vincent let out a deep, warm laugh that echoed off the high ceiling—a sound the staff hadn't heard in thirty years.
"Mr. Buttons can have whatever he wants in this house, Emma," Vincent said gently, leaning down to kiss her soft forehead.
Later that afternoon, the three of them walked together through the blooming rose gardens behind the estate. The crisp autumn air was peaceful, the blue sky stretching wide over New York.
As they walked near the central fountain, Marco stepped out onto the terrace, holding an unsealed black leather envelope bearing an official international wax seal from Europe.

"Sorry to disturb the afternoon, Boss," Marco said, his expression unusually serious. "This was just delivered by a diplomatic courier from London."
Vincent’s smile faded slightly. He accepted the heavy envelope, broke the dark wax seal, and pulled out a single sheet of aged parchment paper.
