Chapter 10 - the threshold of sixteen

Three months later, the Black Crown Casino Hotel was thriving under a new era of absolute peace and grand luxury.
The grand ballroom was illuminated by thousands of sparkling crystal chandeliers for the hotel's annual charity gala. Wealthy socialites, business leaders, and political figures filled the hall, dressed in elegant tuxedos and floor-length evening gowns.
Standing near the top of the grand double marble staircase, Roman Black looked magnificent. Dressed in a dark velvet tuxedo with a black tie, his dark hair neatly styled and his posture immaculate, he commanded the room with effortless authority.
Beside him stood Meera. She looked breathtaking in a custom pale-yellow silk ballgown that trailed gracefully behind her, her dark brown hair styled in elegant vintage waves, adorned with a sparkling diamond ribbon.
Beside them stood Evan, looking sharp in his custom navy tuxedo, proudly wearing a tiny brass engineer badge pinned to his lapel.
As the family descended the staircase arm-in-arm, the crowd clapped enthusiastically. The feared Mafia boss had transformed into a devoted husband and father, and his empire was stronger than ever.
"You look stunning, Mrs. Black," Roman murmured low into Meera's ear, his hand resting lovingly over hers on his arm.
"And you look very handsome, Mr. Black," Meera replied, offering him a radiant, loving smile.
Later that evening, after the gala guests had departed, Roman, Meera, and Evan walked down the subterranean corridor beneath the hotel toward the newly renovated mechanical wing.
They stopped before a heavy iron door marked with a golden brass plate that read: Sublevel Sixteen: Chief Engineering Command.
Evan took out his platinum pass, sliding it through the electronic lock. The heavy mechanical bolts clicked open with a satisfying hiss.
Inside was a massive, state-of-the-art engineering laboratory filled with complex elevator models, digital monitoring screens, and mechanical tool stations built specifically for Evan's training.
"Welcome to your kingdom, Evan," Roman said with a proud smile, patting the boy's shoulder.
Evan ran enthusiastically toward his main workbench, picking up a set of precision brass tools to begin working on a miniature pulley model.
Roman wrapped his broad arms around Meera from behind, resting his chin softly against her shoulder as they watched Evan play.
"Are you happy, Meera?" Roman asked gently, his deep voice vibrating against her back.
"I have never been happier in my life," Meera answered softly, leaning back against his broad, warm chest. "You gave us a home, Roman. A real home."
Roman smiled, turning her gently in his arms to press a warm, loving kiss against her lips.
Yet as they embraced in the quiet laboratory, Marcus walked down the corridor, holding a heavy steel diplomatic pouch that had just arrived via private courier from the international docks in London.
Marcus stopped near the open doorway, his expression grim and tense.

"Boss," Marcus said low, holding out the pouch. "This just came from the Old Crown Vault in Europe. It was left by your grandfather sixteen years ago... with strict orders that it only be opened on the day you gave the master passes to your true heir."
Roman paused, looking at the heavy steel pouch. Tucked inside the outer clear sleeve was an old, yellowed letter stamped with an ancient crest none of them had ever seen before—hinting that the empire Roman built was merely a small piece of a far larger, international legacy waiting across the sea...
