Chapter 25 - I Apologize to Margaret

It took me longer.
I had apologized legally for slap.
Not personally.
I did in mediation.
“I should not have slapped you after I had your wrist controlled and June protected.”
Margaret nodded.
“I was reaching again.”
“Yes.”
“I was wrong.”
“Yes.”
“And you were still wrong to hit me.”
“Yes.”
There.
No need to choose which wrong cancels other.
Then I apologized for sweeping table decorations too.
Not because serious harm.
Because I had used destruction to humiliate her publicly.
The party was already ending.
I wanted everyone to see my anger.
She said:
“That part was expensive.”
“How expensive?”
“Three hundred dollars.”
I laughed.
She did too.
First shared laugh in nearly two years.
Not because incident funny.
Because decorations were absurdly expensive.
That was safe humor.
Mutual.
No one trapped.

Maybe that was how families learn difference.
