Chapter 17 - The award committee opens a review

The award Victor had won for Ashes Above the River was issued by a private music organization.

Not a government.

They opened an authorship review after public questions.

Victor’s team protested.

He had been credited as sole composer.

Daniel had received no credit on the commercial release.

The committee requested:

Composition drafts.

Publishing registration.

Contract basis.

Statements from arrangers.

They did not strip the award immediately.

Good.

Process.

Six months later, they issued a finding.

The work incorporated substantial preexisting material traceable to Daniel Rowan.

The committee could not independently adjudicate copyright ownership.

But sole-composer representation was inconsistent with evidence.

Victor returned the award before formal revocation.

His statement:

“I recognize that the credits associated with this work did not adequately reflect Daniel Rowan’s contribution.”

Contribution.

Not authorship.

Yet.

Still movement.
