Chapter 10 - My Locker

The biggest shock came two days later.

Police had not searched employee lockers because the original incident did not justify searching the whole mansion.

Michael’s outside employment lawyer recommended that staff be offered the opportunity to secure or inventory personal belongings during the investigation.

I opened my locker with Helen present.

Inside my spare shoes was a velvet jewelry pouch.

I froze.

“I’ve never seen that.”

Helen did not touch it.

We called Marcus.

Then police.

Inside:

Rose’s diamond tennis bracelet.

Not the one Grace had supposedly stolen.

Another.

Worth approximately $48,000.

I started shaking.

“What is that doing here?”

No one answered.

Then Marcus pulled access logs.

The staff room did not have cameras inside changing areas.

Correctly.

But the hallway did.

Rose entered the staff corridor the previous afternoon.

While I was setting up for the charity dinner.

She remained eleven minutes.

No obvious reason.

Rose said she had been checking uniforms.

Helen said Rose had never done that personally in two years.
