Chapter 26 - Michael Visits My Hotel

Three years after I left, Michael stayed at the hotel where I worked.

He booked under his own name.

Of course.

Subtlety was never his strength.

I met him in the lobby.

“Mr. Ashford.”

“Naomi.”

“You know we have less marble here.”

“I noticed.”

“Manageable?”

“Barely.”

He had changed.

Not personality.

Systems.

His household now had stable staff.

Average tenure nearly three years.

He knew their names.

That should not count as growth for an adult billionaire.

Still, it did.

He said:

“I owe you.”

I shook my head.

“No.”

“I do.”

“You paid me.”

“That isn’t what I mean.”

“I know.”

Then:

“But if you turn this into a debt, it becomes another way powerful people decide what employees are supposed to feel.”

He went quiet.

Then smiled.

May you like

“You got more difficult.”

“I got promoted.”
