Chapter 25 - Grace’s Bracelet

Two years later, I ran into Grace.
Coffee shop.
She looked happy.
Worked for a family with three children.
No mansion.
No diamonds.
She asked:
“Did they ever figure out my bracelet thing?”
“Yes.”
“What happened?”
I explained what could be shared.
She stared at her cup.
Then:
“I thought maybe I did something wrong without remembering.”
That hurt.
Rose had done to employees what manipulative people often do best.
Turn certainty inward.
Maybe I was careless.
Maybe I misplaced it.
Maybe she saw something I didn’t.
Grace said:
“For a year, every time something went missing anywhere, I panicked.”
I understood.
We sat for an hour.
Not survivors forming a lifelong club.

Then returning to work.
