Chapter 11 - THE CABINET DOOR

The footage made my own conduct easy to review.

Ophelia advanced toward Gemma.

I could have stepped between them.

Two bodyguards were already near.

I yanked the cabinet door open hard across Ophelia’s path.

She struck it.

Bruised her forearm and hip.

No fracture.

Then my words.

“That maid kept my daughter breathing. I’m here to stop yours.”

The prosecutor asked:

“Did you intend to threaten to kill her?”

“No.”

“What did you intend?”

“To stop her authority in my household.”

“Why phrase it that way?”

“Because I was angry and wanted her afraid.”

There.

No need to polish.

I accepted misdemeanor diversion for reckless physical conduct.

Anger-management counseling.

Community service.

No new offense.

The threat itself did not become a separate criminal count after context, immediate conduct, and witness evidence were reviewed, but the prosecutor made clear it was unacceptable menacing language.

I agreed.

Old Mafia theater feels less impressive when repeated in a courthouse hallway.
