Chapter 8 - OPHELIA’S OTHER CLIENTS

Arbor Compliance contacted MDS’s outside clients.

We expected more horror stories.

They did not find them.

That mattered.

Outside households described Ophelia as demanding but professional.

No meal withholding.

No medical interference.

No matriarch language.

No “family discipline.”

At one client’s estate, a child had a severe food allergy. MDS protocols were immaculate.

Epinephrine access.

Training.

Emergency plans.

Incident drills.

Ophelia herself had approved them.

I read the file twice.

She understood medical safety perfectly when the child did not carry her surname.

So why deny Lucy?

Because this was not disbelief in medicine.

It was belief in hierarchy.

In an outside client’s home, Ophelia was vendor.

At Villa Moretti, she believed she was authority.
