Chapter 23 - Marnie sees Valeria’s apology

Near the end of Valeria’s custody period, her attorney forwarded a written apology.
Not directly to Marnie.
To me.
I am sorry for shoving Marnie and for humiliating her at the banquet. She did not cause my anger. I also should not have told her I was taking Celeste’s place. Whatever Celeste asked me to do during her illness did not make me Marnie’s mother.
No excuses.
Then:
I am not asking her to answer.
I showed it to Marnie’s therapist first.
Then asked Marnie:
“Would you like me to read something Valeria wrote?”
“What?”
“An apology.”
“Do I have to?”
“No.”
“Then no.”
I put it away.
Three weeks later she asked:
“Still have it?”
“Yes.”
She listened.
At the end:
“Is she telling truth?”
“She is admitting some true things.”
“Do I forgive?”
“That’s your decision.”
“Not yet.”
May you like
“Okay.”
No lesson followed.
