Chapter 15 - Marcella Finally Said the Truth

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

“You want the truth?”

Marcella’s voice cracked through the room.

“I’ll give you the truth.”

Nobody stopped her.

Sometimes the best way to expose someone was simply to let them keep talking.

“I married Julian and spent twenty years being introduced as Dominic Vercetti’s sister-in-law.”

Dominic’s expression didn’t change.

“Julian walked into meetings and people asked where you were.”

Her eyes were wet now.

Not with remorse.

With rage.

“At restaurants, they moved tables for you. At charity events, photographers followed you. Every decision came back to Dominic.”

She turned toward Evelyn.

“And you encouraged it.”

Evelyn shook her head.

“I encouraged both my sons.”

“No. You protected him.”

“I protected Julian too.”

“You made Dominic your successor.”

“Because Julian didn’t want the job.”

Marcella stopped.

Dominic looked at her.

That was the truth she had never accepted.

Julian had never wanted to be Dominic.

He loved architecture.

Old cars.

Cooking terrible steaks on Sunday afternoons.

He liked the family businesses but hated power.

Marcella had mistaken his lack of ambition for humiliation.

She had built her resentment around a wound Julian never had.

“You wanted him to be angry,” Dominic said.

Marcella’s eyes flashed.

“He deserved more.”

“He wanted less.”

“Don’t speak for him!”

“You’ve been speaking for him since he died.”

That silenced her.

Detective Whitmore stepped forward.

“We also need to discuss the forged power of attorney.”

Marcella laughed bitterly.

“Prove I forged it.”

Cole raised his hand weakly.

“I can testify about the medical certification.”

Thomas said, “I can testify about the security access.”

Harold added, “We have the false transfer instrument.”

Marcella turned on all three.

“Cowards.”

Dominic looked at her.

“No.”

His voice was calm.

“They were cowards when they helped you.”

Thomas lowered his eyes.

“They’re useful now because they finally stopped.”

Marcella’s face tightened.

Whitmore received a call.

She stepped aside.

When she returned, her expression had changed.

“The notary has been located.”

Marcella went completely still.

Harold leaned forward.

“Which notary?”

“The one whose seal appears on Evelyn’s voting transfer.”

Marcella whispered, “She won’t talk.”

Whitmore stared at her.

“You’re having a difficult night with sentences like that.”

Dominic almost smiled.

The detective continued.

“She already talked.”

Marcella’s complexion drained.

Whitmore placed her phone on speaker.

A woman’s recorded statement played.

“My name is Rebecca Sloan. I notarized the Vercetti transfer, but Evelyn Vercetti was not present.”

A gasp swept through the room.

Rebecca continued.

“Marcella Vercetti brought me a signature page and said Evelyn had signed it earlier.”

Marcella shouted, “Stop that recording!”

Whitmore paused it.

The silence was brutal.

Evelyn stared at Marcella.

“You forged my name.”

Marcella’s lips trembled.

For the first time, she had nothing left.

Then Whitmore said—

“That isn’t the worst part of the statement.”

👉 The forged signature could send Marcella to court, but the notary’s final revelation would show exactly how far Marcella had planned to go if Evelyn refused to disappear quietly.
