Chapter 10 - the dawn of the blackwood empire

The morning sun cast a brilliant, cinematic golden light across the Manhattan skyline, piercing through the towering glass windows of the executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor.

The room was packed. Fifteen members of the board of directors sat around the massive mahogany table, their expressions a mix of nervous tension and smug anticipation. At the head of the table sat the Board Chairman, dressed impeccably in his black tuxedo, looking every bit the triumphant conqueror.

The heavy oak doors swung open.

Adrian Blackwood walked into the room. He wore a crisp, dark navy suit, his rugged face completely relaxed, carrying an aura of absolute, unshakable dominance. He didn't take the seat at the head of the table; instead, he walked slowly toward the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out over the city.

The Chairman cleared his throat, standing up to address the room with false theatrical solemnity.

“Gentlemen,” the Chairman announced, his voice ringing with authority. “We are here for an emergency session under section four of our charter to address the catastrophic reputational damage caused by our Chief Executive Officer’s erratic behavior at last night’s gala. I call for an immediate vote to suspend Mr. Blackwood’s voting shares.”

Murmurs of agreement rippled through the corrupted directors. Three regional directors—the very ones who had laughed at Adrian in his waiter's uniform the night before—nodded eagerly, holding out their digital tablet terminals to log their votes.

“I second the motion,” the first regional director chimed in smoothly. “We need stability, not tyranny.”

The Chairman smiled, turning his gaze toward Adrian. “It seems, Adrian, that your empire has finally outgrown you. Hand over your cryptographic ring, and perhaps we can arrange a graceful retirement.”

Adrian didn't turn around immediately. He took a slow breath, listening to the arrogant silence of the room. Then, he turned, his dark eyes locking onto the Chairman with a terrifying, predatory clarity.

“You forgot to check your inventory this morning, David,” Adrian said, his voice quiet, rich, and cutting through the room like a razor blade.

The Chairman’s smile faltered slightly. “What are you talking about?”

Adrian reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a small, heavy velvet pouch. He tossed it onto the mahogany table. It landed with a dull, heavy metallic thud right in front of the Chairman.

The Chairman hesitantly reached out, pulled open the drawstring, and tipped it over.

Fifteen small, encrypted gold cryptographic tokens rolled out across the polished wood. They were the master keys required to cast a legal vote under section four. Every single board member stared down at their own personal vault token, sitting helplessly on the table in front of Adrian.

“How… how did you get these?” the Chairman stammered, his face instantly draining of color, the mask of triumph shattering completely.

“Your security tokens are linked to the basement vaults,” Adrian said, walking slowly toward the head of the table, his footsteps echoing rhythmically on the floor. “And last night, while you were busy celebrating a victory that hadn't happened yet, my security team cleared out your lockers, seized your offshore shell company accounts, and routed all your voting proxies directly to my personal portfolio.”

Adrian stopped right beside the Chairman, leaning down slightly so his broad shoulders cast a shadow over the older man.

“You tried to use my own hotel against me,” Adrian whispered, his voice a low, lethal rumble. “You forgot that every single brick, every single light, and every single key in this building belongs to a Blackwood.”

The corrupted directors sat in stunned, paralyzed silence. No one moved. No one spoke. The vote was dead before it could even begin.

Adrian stood up straight, his rugged, handsome face framed by the brilliant cinematic morning light. He buttoned his suit jacket, his dark eyes sweeping over the terrified room with absolute dominion.

“The meeting is adjourned,” Adrian commanded. “Security will escort you out through the front lobby. Or, if you prefer… you’re welcome to use the back door.”
