Chapter 2 - The Miniature Boss

The guards stationed around the foyer—men six feet tall, armed with concealed firearms beneath their tailored suits—stood entirely frozen. Their hardened, scar-marked faces displayed a bizarre mix of utter bewilderment and sheer anxiety. None of them dared to move or speak. In the world of the Cole family, a single mistake could cost a man his career or his life, yet here was a toddler parading around in the Boss’s personal necktie as if she owned the estate.

Nora reached the grand center rug, an antique Persian runner. She halted abruptly, her tiny yellow shoes coming together with a decisive snap. She let out a soft, heavy sigh, precisely imitating the sound of an exhausted executive after a twelve-hour negotiation.

With an intensely serious expression on her rosy, innocent face, Nora raised her left arm. She pulled back the lace sleeve of her yellow dress and stared intently at her bare, tiny wrist as if checking an invisible luxury wristwatch. She held her wrist up for three long seconds, her brow furrowing in deep concentration.

"Late," Nora muttered to herself, shaking her curly blonde head with solemn disapproval. "Very late."

From behind the pillar, Emma let out a microscopic gasp, pressing her hand against her pale-pink apron. She recognized that look. It was an expression of cold, commanding impatience—a micro-expression that Nora could only have picked up from watching the master of the house.

Nora then reached into her tiny yellow toy purse and pulled out a bright pink plastic toy cell phone. She flipped it open with a sharp, practiced flick of her wrist, pressing it to her ear. She adjusted her posture, throwing her broad little shoulders back, standing tall in her oversized black silk tie, and narrowed her blue eyes at the blank wall ahead.

Her voice dropped into a hilariously stern, low tone as she spoke into the toy phone.

"Handle it," Nora commanded into the plastic speaker.

She didn't add a "please." She didn't wait for a response. With a sharp click, she snapped the toy phone shut, shoved it back into her yellow purse, and smoothed down the front of her dress with a single, authoritative sweep of her tiny hand.

The guard closest to the grand staircase, a seasoned enforcer named Marcus whose jaw usually looked carved from granite, twitched slightly, his eyes widening in sheer shock. The phrase "Handle it" was Adrian Cole’s signature command. It was the two-word order that preceded major business acquisitions, high-stakes syndicate movements, and the total dismantling of rival factions. Hearing it delivered by a three-year-old girl in a yellow dress and a dragging black tie was a surreal, heart-stopping spectacle that left the entire room holding its breath.

Emma’s hands trembled so violently that the feather duster slipped from her fingers, clattering softly onto the carpet. She closed her eyes, praying to whatever higher power was listening that Adrian remained upstairs in his office for just five more minutes—just long enough for her to gather her daughter and flee.
