Chapter 4

The atmosphere inside the Moretti estate shifted into a quiet, highly disciplined war footing. By six o'clock in the evening, the sun had dipped below the horizon, casting deep purple and amber shadows across the snow-dusted grounds outside the study's floor-to-ceiling windows.
Inside the central war room on the second floor, high-definition monitors covered the walls, displaying live satellite feeds, street-level camera networks, and tactical schematics of Chicago's southern industrial district.
Adrian stood at the head of the conference table, his fitted black shirt unbuttoned at the neck, his sleeves rolled up to reveal his thick, tattooed forearms. A tactical map of Don Sterling’s primary compound in Oak Brook was spread across the polished wood before him.
Marco stood to his right, tapping a command into his tablet. "Sterling has doubled his perimeter guard at the Oak Brook estate. He has at least thirty armed mercenaries on site, led by Gregory Vance—the man from the restaurant."
"What about Eleanor Vance?" Adrian asked, his piercing dark eyes fixed on the blueprint. "Is she being held at Oak Brook?"
"We don't think so," Marco replied, pulling up a series of encrypted thermal scans. "Sterling is too paranoid to keep a high-value hostage at his primary residence. Our intelligence points to an abandoned shipping facility at the South Side docks—Pier 42. It’s owned by a shell company linked to Sterling’s laundering network."
At that moment, the door to the war room creaked open slightly.
Clara stood in the doorway, clutching her white plush bunny against her pale-yellow dress. She looked small against the towering steel doors, but her expressive brown eyes held no fear as she looked at the armed men gathered around the table.
Adrian immediately held up his hand, silencing his security captains. He walked across the room, dropping down to one knee in front of the little girl, bringing his massive frame level with her delicate features.
"Clara," Adrian said softly, his voice dropping into that deep, gentle register reserved only for her. "You should be resting downstairs. The staff prepared dinner for you."
"I heard you talking about Pier 42," Clara whispered, her small fingers smoothing the floppy pink ears of her plush bunny.
Adrian’s sharp brow furrowed. "What do you know about Pier 42, little one?"
Clara reached into the small, hidden pocket sewn into the ruffled sleeve of her pale-yellow floral dress. She pulled out a tiny, silver micro-SD memory card, no larger than a fingernail, and held it out toward Adrian's calloused palm.
"Mom tucked this inside my bunny’s ear before the bad men broke the door," Clara explained, her rosy cheeks flushing as she looked into his dark eyes. "She said it has all the numbers, the offshore bank accounts, and the location of the safe where Sterling keeps his private ledgers. She told me Pier 42 is where Sterling hides his offshore servers."
Marco and the security captains stared in absolute, stunned silence.
Adrian looked down at the tiny silver card in his palm, then back up at Clara. A feeling of profound awe washed over his ruthless heart. This seven-year-old child had carried the key to dismantling Chicago’s most corrupt syndicate inside her plush toy, keeping it safe while being hunted across the city.
Adrian reached out, his broad, tattooed hand gently patting the top of her golden-blonde bun, careful not to disturb her pale-yellow ribbons.
"You are extraordinary, Clara," Adrian murmured, his voice rich with genuine admiration. "You just gave us the ultimate weapon."

He looked up at Marco, his gentle demeanor vanishing in an instant, replaced by a cold, apocalyptic resolve.
"Marco, insert that card into the secure reader," Adrian commanded, standing up to his full, towering height. "Decrypt the files, send a copy directly to the Federal Prosecutor’s private terminal, and prepare the strike force. Tonight, we hit Pier 42, rescue Eleanor Vance, and end Richard Sterling permanently."
