Chapter 25 - The first letter

When Ellie was ten, Nathaniel wrote a letter.
Not secretly.
Through the clinic’s supported-contact process.
It said:
He was glad she was healthy.
He remembered donating because his own uncle had struggled with infertility.
He hoped the medical history he provided remained useful.
He had no expectation that Ellie call him anything.
If one day she wanted questions answered, he would answer them honestly.
Ellie read it twice.
Then said:
“He sounds normal.”
“Disappointing?”
“Kind of.”
“What did you expect?”
“Secret spy.”
Of course.
She wrote back:
Hi Nathaniel. Thank you for helping my parents have me. I like marine animals and drawing. I don’t know what questions I have yet.
Perfect.
No forced reunion.
May you like
No replacement father.
Just information.
