Chapter 7 - Sabine Laurent

Sabine was not my girlfriend.
She was not Ellie’s stepmother.
She was a business rival who had become a reluctant partner.
The Laurent family controlled Laurent Atlantic, a luxury-yacht construction and charter company.
My legitimate company, Moretti Marine Holdings, operated:
Marinas.
Marine-security contracts.
High-end charter management.
Repair facilities.
For almost a year we had negotiated a joint venture.
Combined enterprise value:
Potentially $620 million.
The yacht party was supposed to celebrate:
Ellie’s birthday in the afternoon.
Joint-venture announcement privately that evening.
I hated combining them.
My advisors insisted the timing was efficient.

Another lesson:
Efficiency is often the first word adults use before ruining a child’s event.
