Chapter 12 - THE BLUE LINE DISAPPEARS

The hand-drawn map in Matteo’s room came down.
Not ceremonially.
Elena removed it while redecorating.
Matteo asked:
“Where’s my blue?”
She explained:
“Orchard House has a real yard now. The big lawn belongs to the foundation and everybody can use it.”
“Even Eli?”
“Yes.”
He frowned.
“Daddy said no.”
“Daddy was wrong.”
Children survive adults being wrong.
That is a lesson many families avoid teaching because they think parental authority requires infallibility.
It does not.
Then Conrad told Matteo himself.
Good.
He did not make Elena carry the correction.
“I was wrong about the big lawn.”
“Why?”
“I thought Grandpa Paolo wanted it for us.”
“Didn’t?”
“No.”
“Then whose?”
“Everybody’s.”
Matteo considered.
Then:
“Can Eli play?”
“Yes.”
May you like
Simple.
The blue line disappeared because the adults stopped repeating it.
