Chapter 18 - MATTEO AND ELI

The boys eventually became friends.

Not immediately.

No forced reconciliation photo.

At eight and ten, they ended up on the same youth football team because the town league had limited registration.

I worried.

Conrad worried more.

The coach did not care.

Good.

First practice:

Matteo threw Eli a ball.

Different ball.

Eli caught.

Nothing symbolic to them.

Everything symbolic to adults.

We kept our mouths shut.

Then after practice Eli asked Matteo:

“Did your dad really think my ball was yours?”

Matteo said:

“He thought lots of stuff.”

Children.

May you like

Efficient.

They moved on.
