Chapter 5 - Claire and Marlene had a difficult relationship

They loved each other.
They also fought constantly.
Marlene believed being Claire’s mother entitled her to involvement in:
Money.
Marriage.
Parenting.
Healthcare.
Everything.
Claire once told me:
“My mom hears boundaries as insults.”
I laughed at the time.
Then we married.
Marlene criticized:
Where we lived.
How we invested.
How much I worked.
How we raised Lily.
How Claire spent money.
How much time Claire spent with my family.
There was always an opinion.
But Claire still called her mother every Sunday.
Still invited her for holidays.

Still trusted her with Lily sometimes.
