Chapter 12 - The clonidine

The laboratory confirmed clonidine in Lily’s urine sample at a concentration consistent with recent exposure.
Doctors would not use that number to prove exact dose.
Too many variables.
Timing.
Metabolism.
Body size.
The pale-blue residue from the basement bowl contained clonidine and inactive ingredients consistent with a crushed generic tablet.
Diane’s prescription bottle contained tablets with the same active ingredient and similar dye profile.
Could the laboratory say:
This exact pill came from Diane’s bottle?
No.
Mass-produced tablets are not fingerprints.
But the evidence chain included:
Diane possessed clonidine.
Ryan’s hidden footage showed her presenting a pale-blue pill.
Ryan held Lily.
Clinical symptoms fit clonidine exposure.
Toxicology confirmed clonidine.
Residue in Lily’s basement bowl contained clonidine.
That was corroboration.
Then dosage.
Diane told investigators through counsel:
“She accidentally gave Lily part of my medication thinking it was a vitamin.”
The video undermined accident.
Lily turned away.
Diane persisted.
Ryan restrained.
Then texts:
Diane:
She fought it tonight.
Ryan:
Next time mix it.
May you like
There.
No accidental vitamin.
