Chapter 15 - My own blind spots

I wanted to believe I had noticed everything.
I had not.
Before Boston, Lily became clingier whenever Diane visited.
I attributed it to the terrible-twos phase.
One night Lily said:
“Grandma dark.”
I thought she meant Diane turned lights off early.
I kissed her.
Said:
“Grandma likes bedtime.”
Then daycare teacher mentioned Lily asking for extra snacks.
I assumed growth spurt.
Then Ryan started telling me:
“You undermine every rule Mom creates.”
I answered:
“Your mother doesn’t create rules for our child.”
We fought.
I threatened to take Lily to my mother’s for a week.
That threat became the seed for his custody paranoia.
Was it wrong to leave?
No.
Was it wise to use leaving with our child as a weapon in an argument?
No.
I had imperfections.
