Chapter 21 - Ryan’s verdict

The jury convicted Ryan of:

Felony child endangerment.

Complicity in unlawful administration of medication.

Forgery/false-instrument offense tied to Heather’s fabricated statement.

They acquitted him of:

Felony unlawful restraint because prosecutors did not prove beyond reasonable doubt that Ryan intended or agreed to Lily being physically locked in the basement on the charged occasion.

He was convicted on a lesser endangerment theory for knowingly permitting Diane’s basement discipline despite prior notice.

Mixed.

Again.

No one had to make him guilty of everything to make him accountable.

Then family court.

A criminal conviction did not automatically terminate parental rights.

But it changed the landscape.

Ryan petitioned for future supervised contact with Lily.

I opposed direct contact at that stage.

The court postponed final decision until sentencing and updated child assessment.

Primary conflict remained alive.
