Chapter 6 - The bruises

The child advocacy center interview happened three days later.

I was not in the room.

Neither was Daniel.

A trained forensic interviewer spoke with Noah.

The interview was recorded under local protocol.

We did not watch live because the team advised against turning his disclosure into a family spectacle.

Later investigators summarized.

Noah said:

Grandma made him sit on “the square.”

What square?

A taped box on kitchen floor.

If he left:

She put him back.

Sometimes grabbed his arms.

Sometimes “the silver thing.”

Did silver thing go around neck?

“Yes.”

Did it hurt?

“Sometimes scratch.”

Did she pull?

“Yes.”

Why?

“Stay.”

Food?

He said:

“Dog snack when bad.”

Did he eat it?

“Two.”

Two pieces?

He held up two fingers.

Then:

“Spit one.”

Did she make him eat a full bowl?

He said no.

Important.

The tray in kitchen contained kibble.

Diane had told him bad children should eat dog food.

Evidence supported at least some ingestion.

Not a week of surviving on kibble.

Then bruises.

“Grandma squeeze.”

Which?

He pointed to upper arm.

Leg bruise?

He said he hit coffee table once.

Could be.

No forcing every bruise into abuse theory.

Then another disclosure:

“Quiet room.”

Where?

“Downstairs.”

Our basement had:

Laundry room.

Storage.

Guest room.

Utility room.

Which?

He described:

“Room with red bucket.”

Laundry room.

Did door lock?

“Grandma close.”

Could he leave?

“No.”

How long?

“Long.”

Children cannot reliably estimate duration.

No clock claim.

Then:

“Sometimes lady comes.”

My heart stopped when investigator told us.

“What lady?”

“Teacher lady.”

ClearPath?

Maybe.

He described glasses and a purple bag.

Marjorie Keene carried a purple laptop case in doorbell footage.

Then the interviewer asked neutrally:

“What happened when the lady came?”

“Talk.”

“Did she see the silver thing?”

Noah said:

“On chair.”

Not around his neck.

Then:

“Grandma say he needs stronger.”

That phrase sounded adult.

Could be memory.

May you like

Could be something he heard.

Investigators would corroborate.
