Chapter 7 - Marjorie Keene

Marjorie came to ClearPath’s office with counsel.

She was fifty-one.

Calm.

Credentialed.

Twenty-four years as a clinical social worker.

ClearPath, however, was not operating as a mental-health clinic for Noah.

She called services:

Caregiver coaching.

She insisted:

“I never authorized restraint.”

Records supported that.

“I never authorized food deprivation.”

Supported.

“I never instructed anyone to put a chain around a child.”

Supported.

Then why continue?

Because Diane reported escalating behavior.

Marjorie’s notes:

Caregiver appears rigid. Reinforce nonphysical approach.

Later:

Caregiver repeatedly requests stronger consequences. Advised against.

Then a photo.

Diane had sent one through ClearPath portal.

Noah sitting inside a taped square.

A silver chain lay coiled on a chair in background.

Not around him.

Marjorie said she did not notice it.

Could be true.

Then one message:

Diane:

He leaves the square every time. I need a boundary he cannot cross.

Marjorie:

A visual boundary is symbolic. Do not physically tether him.

There.

Diane had been explicitly warned.

That helped Marjorie.

Then another session note.

Marjorie visited after Noah had a bruise on upper arm.

She wrote:

Small bruise observed left upper arm. Caregiver states playground fall. Child active, no distress.

Did she report?

No.

Was one bruise enough to mandate report?

Context matters.

At that time she had:

A caregiver asking about stronger consequences.

A visible bruise.

A child in a program enrolled without verified parental consent.

Was reasonable suspicion reached?

Child-protection experts disagreed later.

Professional licensing board would review.

Then more.

Marjorie knew Diane was grandmother, not parent.

She knew caregiver authorization was limited.

Why no parent call?

She said:

“Diane told me Emily was aware but too busy to participate.”

Did she verify?

“No.”

“Why?”

“I trusted her.”

May you like

There.

Every adult in this story had trusted Diane at the exact moment verification mattered.
