Chapter 15 - Judith’s Case

Judith was charged in connection with the staircase assault.
Prosecutors had:
My statement.
Her initial denial.
Her changing versions.
Graham’s testimony.
Medical evidence.
And one message Judith sent Graham hours later:
I barely touched her. She made herself fall by panicking.
Barely touched.
That contradicted:
No contact.
Eventually Judith accepted a plea to a misdemeanor assault-related offense under the applicable law.
Probation.
Treatment.
No contact with me.
Restitution for some uncovered medical expenses.
No cinematic twenty-year sentence.
The conduct was serious.
The legal outcome reflected the evidence, injury level, age, record, and negotiated resolution.
Some relatives thought it was too little.
