Chapter 24 - Caroline Stops Rescuing Me

For several months Caroline did everything.
Groceries.
Appointments.
Driving.
Laundry.
Then one afternoon she arrived uninvited with enough food for a week.
I opened the door.
“No.”
She blinked.
“What?”
“I have groceries.”
“These are better.”
“Take them home.”
“Nora.”
“Caroline.”
We stared.
Then she smiled.
“Okay.”
That mattered.
She had helped me leave one controlling family system.
I did not need to replace it with a loving version of the same structure.
Sisters.
Not rescuer and patient.
She took the food home.
Then texted:
Your loss. Lasagna is excellent.
I replied:
Prove it.
May you like
She brought one serving the next night.
Boundary negotiated.
