Chapter 23 - I turn eighteen

My birthday arrived.
No courtroom.
No guardianship petition.
No emergency hearing.
I woke up.
Went downstairs.
Samuel had bought doughnuts.
Mom came over.
Ethan gave me a handmade card covered in green frogs.
Then the trustee held a meeting the following week.
I signed documents acknowledging:
My rights.
My responsibilities.
Conflicts rules.
Voting process.
I did not become CEO.
I did not receive a suitcase of cash.
I became an adult beneficiary with defined rights.
Boring.
Beautiful.
The first major vote involved whether to reopen sale discussions with another investor.
I voted:
Abstain.
Samuel stared.
“You fought all this for your vote and you abstain?”
“I don’t understand the deal yet.”
May you like
He smiled.
“Good answer.”
